Carol Jean LoCicero practices at the trial and appellate levels, handling litigation concerning defamation and privacy, the Public Records Act, the Government in the Sunshine Law court access and cameras in the courtroom. She leads statewide advocacy efforts on media issues, including cameras in the courtroom, super sealed court records, and electronic access to court records. Carol also reviews media contracts and renders pre- and post-publication advice on investigative and sensitive news stories.

In addition to media law, Carol is experienced in trademark, Lanham Act, copyright and commercial litigation matters. Her practice also includes advertising/marketing clients and legal issues particularly affecting that industry.  Carol has years of experience in handling trademark and copyright registrations, and managing large trademark portfolios.  She regularly handles licensing and other contractual issues for intellectual property clients.

Carol currently serves on the board of the First Amendment Foundation. She is also a member of the American Bar Association's Section on Communications Law and the Media Law Committee of The Florida Bar. She co-chaired the Women in Communications Law Subcommittee of the ABA Forum on Communications Law. She is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida and The United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In 1991, Carol co-chaired The Florida Bar's Media Law Conference. She served two terms as vice-chair of The Florida Bar's Media Law Committee. Carol was selected by her peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America. Carol regularly presents seminars on First Amendment issues to lawyers, journalists and students. She has been invited to speak on media issues at both national and statewide conferences.

In her community, Carol served for years on the board of directors of the Junior League of Tampa, Inc. She has performed substantial pro bono legal work for the Spring of Tampa Bay, Inc., a spousal abuse shelter, and has litigated capital habeas issues with other lawyers in the firm.

Carol earned her B.A. magna cum laude in English in 1983 from Troy State University and her J.D., with honors, in 1986 from the University of Florida, where she was named to the Order of the Coif.

Carol is married to an estates and trusts lawyer, with whom she has a daughter, a son and a Collie.
